Abstract
Professor Oder discusses the basic features of constitutional democracy in Turkey, such as: democratic institutions, constitutional review, the balancing of majoritarian tendencies with liberal values, the secular state within a predominantly Muslim society, women’s rights, and the influences of Europeanization. She highlights the achievements and the paradoxes of Turkish constitutionalism.
