Abstract
The Commentator, 1961-2011
The Commentator is the official IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law student newspaper, an entirely student-generated and managed publication covering Chicago-Kent news and events as well as issues pertinent to the law school community. The Commentator highlights student, faculty, and alumni achievements, delivers news on student organizations, and provides a forum for student and faculty op-eds and letters to the editor.
The first issue of The Commentator was printed on November 6, 1950 (by the Junior Bar Association) and was titled The Kent Commentator until 1975, when the title was represented as Chicago-Kent’s Commentator. Between 1975 and 1988, the name returned to Kent Commentator until 1994 when the name The Commentator began to be used consistently. The newspaper was first made available online in 2007. Publication is generally 3 times per semester for a total of 6 issues per year.
