Helen Walter Munsert, Class of 1929

Helen Walter Munsert was born in Virginia in 1910. In 1929, she graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law, valedictorian in a class of over 100 students. She was admitted to the Illinois bar in 1935. As a practicing lawyer, she was the first woman to serve as attorney and hearing examiner for the Illinois Commerce Commission, the first woman to serve as director of the Chicago Regional Chapter of the Association of Interstate Commerce Commission Practitioners, and the first woman to be named to the board of managers of the Chicago Bar Association. She served as legislative chairman of the Alliance of Business and Professional Women of Chicago, and as the president of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois from 1944-1945. She passed away in 1967.
