Abstract
Prior to a lecture by former U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens on October 3, 2012, IIT Chicago-Kent Professors Carolyn Shapiro, Steven Heyman and Nancy Marder introduce, and highlight Stevens' distinguished history with the U.S. Supreme Court from his first, and only, argument in front of the court in 1962 to a key decision in Payne v. Tennessee regarding the eighth Amendment.
